Berry Bury Berry

First Day, Coins, and Saving

A safe opening route for the $9 achievement, coin pickup, and save troubleshooting.

Last updated: August 30, 2026

For “Off to a good start!”, get nine normal berries into the Hole during day one. A Golden Berry can reduce the number needed. When coins are on the ground, tap your current Pick Up / Use action; holding that action can activate the Vacuum after it is unlocked.

A reliable first-day route

  1. 1

    Check the current binding

Open Settings and identify Pick Up / Use before the clock matters. Bindings can be changed and differ across platforms.

  2. 2

Feed berries into the Hole immediately

Keep the first route short. The playtester achievement guide says nine normal berries in the Hole are enough for the $9 target.

  3. 3

    Tap to collect visible coins

Use a short press instead of holding. The developer has explained that tapping picks up objects while holding activates Vacuum behavior.

  4. 4

    Watch the money total

Confirm the displayed balance reaches $9 before the day ends. Do not count a coin that is still lying in the garden.

  5. 5

Use a later run if needed

The achievement guide notes that New Game+ modifiers can make this easier; there is no need to damage a main completion route over one missed first day.

Coins are visible but the balance is not moving

  • Tap Pick Up / Use once. A long press may switch to Vacuum behavior instead of collecting the object under the cursor.
  • Aim directly at one coin and test it away from a pile. This separates an input problem from a pathing or clutter problem.
  • Check whether Auto Coin Pickup is unlocked and what range the shop currently shows. It is an upgrade, not a default promise that every visible coin will be banked.
  • If the binding feels inconsistent, remap it in Settings and test with only one input device active.

If progress appears not to save

The current official announcement set does not document every autosave trigger, so this guide does not invent one.

  1. 1

    Create a small test

Write down the money total, buy one inexpensive visible upgrade, and note the current in-game day.

  2. 2

    Leave cleanly and relaunch

Exit through the game menu when possible, then relaunch and check the specific upgrade rather than relying on garden scenery alone.

  3. 3

    Update before repeating

Install the newest game update and restart the platform. Earlier patches fixed loading and pickup issues, so version context matters.

  4. 4

    Report a reproducible loss

Include platform, game version, whether the loss happened after sleeping or relaunching, and the exact item or balance that reverted.

Treat a repeatable rollback as a possible save bug. Do not keep grinding the same long session until a short save test succeeds.

First-day FAQ

Do I need ten berries on day one?

No. The playtester guide specifies nine normal berries for $9 and says ten is not normally possible in the available time.

Why does holding the pickup button not collect the coin?

The same action can have tap and hold behavior. Use a short tap for pickup; holding can activate the Vacuum once that tool is available.

Does sleeping prove the whole game saved?

Not by itself. Verify a specific persistent change, such as a purchased upgrade, after a clean relaunch. Current official notes do not enumerate every save trigger.
